The Usefulness of an Open Mic Night

If I told you there was a way that you could receive instant feedback on your music and a platform on which you can start your musical career you’d be all for it right?

That’s exactly how an open mic night can be seen. Though these types of events cop a lot of flack from musicians for reasons such as free entertainment for the venue, ego maniac performers etc I do believe they hold a lot of weight in the development of artists.

They are an easy entry for all ages and skill levels to get involved in the act of performing. You may be a great musician and have never performed! Opportunities that come from open mic nights can be very beneficial.

For example, a talent agent may be there scouting for new bands/acts to play at a local bar. This could easy turn into a weekly/fortnightly gig bringing you in income for something you enjoy doing (I’d like to assume).

You’ll want to be prepared before you head on stage but don’t overthink it too much. Sometimes just getting out there and doing it is the most important step because once you find that the fear and risks you had associated with your first performance will typically ease.

This website is definitely about making people go out and do the things they want to when it comes to music. For first time performers the environment of an open mic night is just perfect for this.

As well as a base for beginners it can also be a great opportunity to hone your craft and experiment with what works and what doesn’t.

My last piece of advice would be to find a good open mic night because some are better than others. Go and try them all and see what the best place is for you to perform!
